During their two-week visit to the newspaper, students learned about the jobs of reporters, photographers, copy editors and other newsroom personnel as well as careers in the circulation, advertising and accounting departments. The participants also examined the process of operating a daily newspaper.
Their activities included hearing and interviewing a number of guest speakers, taking field trips to the mayor's office, the Gainsboro neighborhood and the Harrison Museum of African American Culture, and producing a souvenir newspaper as a workshop memento.
