The League of Older Americans will hold a public hearing Wednesday to get comments on the services it provides for senior citizens in Roanoke, Salem, Clifton Forge, Covington and the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig and Roanoke.
The hearing will be at 10 a.m. at Melrose Towers, 3038 Melrose Ave. N.W.
The league will use the comments to develop priorities for services it will offer beginning Oct. 1, said Susan Williams, executive director.
A list of the services can be obtained by calling the LOA office at 345-0451 or visiting the offices at 706 Campbell Ave. S.W. or in Eagle Rock, New Castle and Covington.
SPCA plans annual membership drive
The Roanoke Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold its third annual "Lockup in the Mall" Saturday in conjunction with its membership drive.
The SPCA needs radio and TV personalities to volunteer to assist local celebrities who are soliciting memberships. During the lockup, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at at Tanglewood Mall, celebrities will serve two-hour "sentences" in a jail cell at the mall to publicize the need for new members.

Knights of Columbus council elects officers
Steven J. Talevi has been elected grand knight of Roanoke Council 562 of the Knights of Columbus for 1993-94.
Other officers are: Michael J. Lazzuri, deputy grand knight; Joseph A. Abbatello, chancellor; Jan M. Hodnett, treasurer; John C. Webb, advocate; Harry D. Cheney, warden; Kevin P. Oddo, recorder; Michael J. Doyle Jr. and George J. Palmerio, inside guards; Joseph A. Colosimo, outside guard; and William T. DeBerry, trustee.
