MENTAL HOSPITAL FAILS TO GAIN ACCREDITATION

"They called and said the committee met and voted to deny accreditation effective July 13. They gave no other information," said John Favret, the hospital's director.

The action by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations will not affect the hospital's day-to-day operations. It could, however, lead to closer scrutiny by federal Medicaid and Medicare officials who pay the bills for most of Eastern State's patients.
