NO ONE HURT IN FIRE AT BLACKSBURG HIGH

A transformer box at Blacksburg High School malfunctioned Thursday resulting in a fire that caused an estimated $60,000 worth of damage, Blacksburg police said.

Smoke from the fire spread throughout the building, but police said there were no injuries.

At about 10 a.m., Blacksburg police officers and fire and rescue squad members were dispatched to the rear of the school.

The fire was contained at the source and extinguished by the fire department, police said.

Building engineer Jim Ward said an electrical panel that controls the school's electrical and phone systems was severely damaged by the fire.
