REPORTED EARNINGS NOLAND

Noland Co.

Noland Co., Newport News-based distributor of equipment to the building trades with operations in Roanoke, on Friday reported second-quarter net income of $432,000, or 11 cents per share, down 34 percent from $654,000, or 17 cents per share, in the 1992 period. Sales for the quarter were $105.2 million, 2 percent less than $107.3 million in the 1992 quarter. Operating profit was $469,000, slightly higher than that of the year-earlier period.

For the first six months, sales totaled $193.5 million, 4.4 percent below the year-earlier period's $202.3 million. The company said it had a net loss of $544,000, or 15 cents per share, compared to $859,000, or 23 cents per share, in the 1992 half.

\ Dominion Resources

Second-quarter earnings for Richmond-based Dominion Resources Inc., parent of Virginia Power Co., were 68 percent higher than in the 1992 quarter, thanks to hot weather that kept air conditioners humming, the company said Friday. Net income was $103.1 million, or 63 cents per share, compared to $61.2 million, or 38 cents per share, in the 1992 quarter.

For the first six months, earnings were $225.6 million, up 32 percent from $171.1 million in 1992.

Virginia Power posted earnings of 55 cents per share in the quarter, up from 35 cents a share. Retail sales were up more than 8 percent.
