The red panda cub is the third birth for the female red panda on display at the zoo and the first for the zoo's male. The cub will not be out of its nestbox for viewing until early September.
The joey recently was discovered in the pouch of a female tree kangaroo at about 75 days old and 4 inches long. It will remain in its mother's pouch for eight to 10 months and can be seen popping its head out of the pouch then.
Both births are results of the zoo's participation in the Species Survival Programs.
