OBIT BAYSE, JEWELL F. JR.
BAYSE, Jewell F. Jr., of Roanoke, passed away Friday, July 16, 1993. He
entered this life Tuesday, November 27, 1906. He was employed at Shaffers
Crossing Roundhouse of the Norfolk & Western Railway for over 49 years, as a
machinist. He worked for Northwest Hardware for a number of years following
his retirement. Mr. Bayse was a member of Lodge #165 I.A.M., and was a member
of the Waverly Place Baptist Church, where he served his church for over 40
years as a Sunday school teacher. He was also a deacon and served as chairman
of the deacon board. Surviving are his loving wife, Gertrude A. Bayse; three
daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Margaret and Tommy Gordon, Frances B.
Kingery, Martha Elaine and Rob Hale, all of Roanoke; son and daughter-in-law,
Jewell Farmer III and Joyce Bayse, Copper Hill; two stepsons and
stepdaughters-in-law, Wayne and Ann Jamison, Boones Mill, Wallace and Carolyn
Jamison, Roanoke; a sister, Elizabeth Mackie, Roanoke; two brothers, John
Eldridge Bayse, Roanoke, Frank Bayse, Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 4 stepgrandchildren. Funeral
services will be at the Waverly Place Baptist Church, 3 p.m. Monday, with Dr.
Denver J. Davis and the Rev. Charles Hoffler officiating. Interment will be in
Fair View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to
9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
