LOOKING SOUTHWARD - TO GREENSBORO

I RECENTLY went to Greensboro for a business meeting. I arrived early and had about two hours to kill. I hadn't been there in quite some time, and that was just a quick drive through, so I decided to drive around and see just what it has that Roanoke doesn't.

Well, Greensboro is growing progressively in leaps and bounds. I saw major corporate businesses, new shopping centers, new office buildings, new small businesses, new restaurants everywhere, and a highway system that operated fairly smoothly and efficiently.

Roanoke, it's time for a wake-up call. I can see now why this valley's population is not growing. They're all moving to Greensboro! The sad thing is, in my opinion, the Roanoke Valley is a much prettier place. I think the real reason we're not growing is because Roanokers don't want to!

Greensboro strikes me as an area that wants to be the best at what they do. Roanoke just wants to be . . . ?

You've heard this before, and some will be offended and say that if you don't like it here, move. Well . . .

Take pride, Roanoke, and try being and having the best. It all starts with a plan. Most cities and counties don't plan to fail, they just fail to plan.
