Pulaski County came up with five runs in the eighth inning to claim the Dixie Pre-Majors (ages 15-16) tournament championship with a 6-1 victory over Radford Friday night at Calfee Park.
Pitcher Jason Corbin broke a 1-all tie with an RBI double. Then Rudge Arnold broke the game open with a two-run double. Corbin allowed 10 hits, but had six strikeouts and worked his way out of trouble several times - including a bases-loaded jam in the seventh - for the victory.
Meanwhile, Floyd County proved to be too much for Radford, winning 13-0 in the Dixie Boys (ages 13-14) tournament final Saturday afternoon at Loving Field.
The Dalton boys - Jason and Kevin - combined on a one-hitter to stymie Radford in the Dixie Boys final. Floyd County scored in every inning and built up such an advantage that the game was called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run slaughter rule.
