Sgt. Gregory A. Morris, supervisor of the state police's tactical unit for the 2nd Division in Culpeper, was struck in the hip by a ricocheting bullet, state police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said.
He was flown to Fairfax Hospital following the 4 p.m. incident and was undergoing surgery, she said.
"The bullet apparently went in above the hip and down his left side. It appears it was a 10mm," Caldwell said. She said the bullet was lodged against the trooper's spine.
Caldwell said Morris and the four troopers in the unit where training on a 300-acre farm north of Washington, D.C. She said the troopers were practicing entering a building when a round ricocheted off a target and struck Morris. - Associated Press
