OBIT COLLINS, EVELYN PARRIS
COLLINS, Evelyn Parris, 62, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 17,
1993. She was born August 28, 1930, in Knoxville, Tenn., the daughter and only
child of the late Jim and Ora Parris. Having been educated in the Knoxville
Schools, she completed her studies at Howard University earning her B.S. and
M.S. degrees. Mrs. Collins married the late Rev. David L. Collins Sr., and to
this union one son was born. Upon moving to Roanoke, she joined the First
Baptist Church on N. Jefferson St., where she was a faithful member. Mrs.
Collins recently retired after 24 years of teaching at William Fleming High
School. There she was a instructor of Home Economics and Occupation Child
Care. Mrs. Collins also taught for a number of years in the Knoxville Public
School System prior to moving here. Survivors include her son, David L.
Collins Jr., Roanoke; three cousins, Mrs. Gladys Means, Mrs. Barbara Williams,
both of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mrs. Farrette Derrind, Shaker Heights, Ohio; and
many friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at the First
Baptist Church on N. Jefferson St. Dr. K. B. Wright will officiate with
interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday
from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
