OBIT HOPKINS, THOMAS FRANKLIN SR.
HOPKINS, Thomas Franklin Sr., 76, of P.O. Box 148, Rural Retreat, formerly
of #9 Gary, W.Va., died Monday in Charleston, W.Va. Born in Thorpe, W.Va., he
was a son of the late Conda and Mary Hill Hopkins. He was a resident of Rural
Retreat for 13 years and was formerly employed by U.S. Steel-Gary, W.Va., with
43 years service and was a member of the UMWA. He was of the Methodist faith,
and was preceded in death by one brother, Emerson Hopkins; and one sister,
Aliene Burke. Survivors include his wife, Wessie Mitchell Hopkins of the home;
one son, Thomas Franklin Hopkins Jr. of Richmond; two daughters, Shirley Ann
Hooker of Charleston, W.Va., Carolyn Sue Shuford of Weaverville, N.C.; three
brothers, James Hopkins of Gary, W.Va., William Hopkins of Gary, W.Va., John
Hopkins of Titusville, Fla.; two sisters, Anne Pinter of Gary, W.Va., Kathleen
Charr of Leckie, W.Va.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Services
will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in
Bluewell, W.Va., with the Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. Entombment will
follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call from 1 p.m.
until 3 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the funeral.
