SUIT SETTLED BY COUPLE, PHYSICIAN

A settlement was reached Tuesday with a couple who filed a $36 million civil suit against former Northern Virginia fertility specialist Dr. Cecil Jacobson.

William Artz, a lawyer for a Northern Virginia couple who sued Jacobson for malpractice, negligence and fraud, said the terms and the amount of the agreement would not be revealed.

The couple's identity was not disclosed in court papers.

They claimed Jacobson, 56, used his own sperm to artificially fertilize the woman's eggs.

The couple has three children who were conceived with Jacobson's help.

Jacobson was convicted of 52 counts of fraud and perjury in May 1992, sentenced to five years in prison and fined $116,000. He is free on bond pending appeal.

Jacobson now lives in Provo, Utah. - Associated Press
