ROANOKE HAWKS SPLIT AAU GAMES

The Roanoke Hawks recorded a big victory then lost to a tough team on Wednesday in the 17-and-under AAU national basketball championship tournament at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

The Hawks took their most convincing victory of the week early in the day with a 102-64 romp over the Minnesota Stars. Curtis Staples had 26 points for Roanoke.

In the second game, the Hawks lost 84-61 to the highly regarded Tennessee Travelers.
