The Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association Inc. and its Marva Maid Dairy division reached a settlement with the state a year ago.
Marva Maid agreed to pay $1.05 million, with $950,000 allocated for damages for the school divisions and $100,000 in attorneys' fees and costs. Marva Maid paid half of the money a year ago.
In 1991, the attorney general's office filed a civil lawsuit against five dairies on behalf of the 35 school divisions in eastern and central Virginia. The lawsuit sought damages against the companies for allegedly conspiring to rig bids for school milk contracts since as early as 1983.
