WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY IN SLAYING OF BOYFRIEND

A woman who shot her on-again, off-again boyfriend in the back after having sex with him in her parents' home in December has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Brenda Elizabeth Kolcum, 24, was sentenced Tuesday to 32 years in prison. She will have to serve at least six years before parole consideration.

Attorneys for both sides said the plea agreement was reached because of Kolcum's rambling and often confusing confession and a potentially inflammatory abortion motive. The woman told police that she shot Joel Powers, 36, because he made her abort their child.> - Associated Press
