BLACKSBURG SHOULD ENFORCE TRAFFIC LAWS

HOW MANY times have you been stopped in traffic and been passed on your right by a bicyclist who proceeds to run the traffic light? If you live in Blacksburg, the answer is five or six times a day.

Young people with no regard for the law will always be a threat to the safety and well-being of society. Failure of the Town of Blacksburg to enforce our traffic-safety laws is obvious in the flagrant violations to be seen on every street corner and alley in the area.

Revenue lost in not pursuing these lawbreakers must be staggering. The annoyance to law-abiding motorists and pedestrians (and bicyclists) is reaching the point where we ask ourselves: Just how important can adhering to traffic laws be when town police don't enforce them?
