ATTEMPTED VIGILANTE GUILTY OF REVENGE PLOT

A jury found an Eastern Shore man guilty of plotting to kidnap, torture and murder a man he thought was connected to his son's death.

George B. Stone, 66, of Onancock, was convicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court of one count each of soliciting another person to commit kidnapping and soliciting another person to commit murder. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Stone's 19-year-old son, Scott, was killed during a 1990 gun store robbery in Accomac. Javis E. Holland of Philadelphia, was sentenced to two life terms in connection with the crime. However, Stone believed his son's death was part of a conspiracy, according to testimony. He wanted to abduct and torture Philip Hershewe, a cousin of the store's co-owner Camillia Moon, who also was killed.
