NEW MANUFACTURER IN DUBLIN WILL PROVIDE 20 JOBS

ASC Inc. announced plans Thursday to open a manufacturing plant that will employ 20 workers in the new Dublin industrial park.

The company will make interior trim components - including door and side panels - for Volvo-GM Heavy Truck Corp., one of the area's largest employers.

Kyle Chura, a spokesman for the Michigan-based company, said the plant will be in production by the end of the month.

"We are glad to be part of the Dublin community," he said.

Dublin Town Manager Gary Elander said ASC offers the type of high-wage jobs the Dublin area needs.

"We are looking forward to working with the company," he said.

ASC will rent two buildings that total about 25,000-square-feet of space.

The Dublin industrial park consists of 101 acres and 11 shell buildings. It is part of the 350-acre former Burlington Industry site.

Elander said Dublin and Pulaski County officials are trying to attract medium-size manufacturing companies to the park.

ASC has 32 plants employing more than 3,000.

Jerry White, chairman of the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors, said ASC is an example of how an existing company like Volvo-GM can help attract new business to the New River Valley.

"Support of existing business is a primary goal of the county's economic development efforts," he said in a news release.
