The Andrew and Anne Easley Trust of Lynchburg has pledged $50,000. The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Inc. has given $40,000.
These bring the total to $1.8 million.
The gifts will go toward the first phase of the retreat's restoration, which began in the spring. The Corporation for Jefferson's Poplar Forest is working to raise $5.5 million for the project.
Jefferson built Poplar Forest as a retreat from his Monticello home in Charlottesville. It was sold by his grandson and altered considerably after a fire in the 1840s and when it was modernized earlier this century.
