Little impact likely from Flagship strike

If pilots for Flagship Airlines Inc., flying as American Eagle, strike as planned today, Roanoke Regional Airport officials don't expect the stoppage to hamper operations.

"It's a far cry from a USAir strike, as far as local impact," said Mark Courtney, the airport's marketing director. American Eagle accounts for about 5 percent of the Roanoke airport's daily departure seats.

American Eagle runs three daily flights, totaling 91 seats, between Roanoke and American Airlines' hub at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Fort Worth, Texas-based AMR Corp. owns American Airlines Inc. and Flagship Airlines.

The Allied Pilots Association said 98.2 percent of its 1,163 Flagship members voted to strike. AMR said it will shut down Flagship during a strike. - Staff report
