Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Schuermann of Roanoke announce the engagement of their daughter, Catherine Ann, to John Bernard Boyle, son of Mrs. Playford Boyle of Sarasota, Fla. and the late Dr. Boyle.

Miss Schuermann graduated from James Madison University and received her master's degree in business administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is employed by Crestar Bank.

Mr. Boyle graduated from theUniversity of Florida and attends the Richard S. Reynolds School of Business at the University of Richmond. He isemployed by AlliedSignal, Inc.

A January wedding is planned.
