TRAFFIC WRECK TRAPS WOMAN IN HER CAR

Seat belts may have saved the lives of two women and two young boys Saturday afternoon.

Cassie Mae Morgan, 84, of Roanoke, was attempting to make a left turn on a yellow light from Orange Avenue onto Gainsboro Road shortly after 3 p.m. Jennifer Dillard of Roanoke, driving west on Orange with her two young sons, was unable to stop for Morgan, plowing her car into Morgan's station wagon and flipping it over on its left side.

Morgan was trapped in her car for several minutes before police arrived on the scene and extricated her.

Both cars were totaled, but no one was seriously injured. Everyone was wearing seat belts.

Traffic on Orange Avenue was delayed as workers removed both wrecks and cleared broken glass, metal shards, and spilled antifreeze from the intersection.

Morgan was taken to Community Hospital and the Dillards were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for observation and treatment of cuts and bruises.
