OBIT ROBINSON, ROBERT HOWARD
ROBINSON, Robert Howard, 69, of Rocky Mount, died Saturday, July 24, 1993,
at Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was born December 7, 1923, the son of the late
Robert Henry and Anne Wigington Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Anne
Easter Robinson; two children, Elizabeth Robinson Smith and Robert Howard
Robinson Jr.; one granddaughter, Kristen Austin Robinson, all of Roanoke; an
uncle, John A. Robinson of Rocky Mount. He was a graduate of Rocky Mount High
School and a member of the Roanoke College Class of 1945. In World War II he
entered the Army Air Corps in 1942, serving as a B-17 bomber pilot in the
European theatre in 1944 and 1945, receiving the Air Medal, four Oak Leaf
Clusters, European Service Medal, three Battle Stars and Victory Medal. He was
associated with the sales division of Bald Knob Furniture Company and joined
the Franklin Veneer and Guyer-Roberts Corps. in April 1964 where he served as
vice-president and secretary-treasurer, and was the president at the time of
his death. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the First Virginia
Bank of Franklin County, also serving on the Executive Committee. He served on
the Rocky Mount Town Council from 1982 until 1986 and was serving on the
present Rocky Mount Planning and Zoning Commission. He also served as a member
of the Board of Directors of the Franklin Memorial Hospital from 1969 to 1973
and was a member of the Executive Committee. He was an avid golfer with
memberships in the Willow Creek Country Club, Bassett Country Club and Waters
Edge Country Club. Funeral services will be held at Rocky Mount United
Methodist Church, where he was a lifetime member, at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call at Lynch
Funeral Home after 3 Sunday afternoon where the family will receive friends
from 7 to 9 Sunday evening. The family suggests that memorials be made to the
Rocky Mount United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
