\ Seven-year-old Ashley Duvall and her nine-year-old brother Allen finished first and third, respectively, in their age groups Sunday at the Rainbow Iron Kids Triathlon in Louisville, Ky. Both will compete in the national Rainbow meet in Nashville, Tenn., in September. Sunday's triathlon, which had 220 participants between the ages of 7 and 14, consisted of a 100-meter swim, a 3.1-mile bike ride and a .6-mile run.
\ Eric East's run-producing single in the ninth inning Sunday capped a five-run rally as Roanoke Post 3 West defeated Giles County 13-12 in American Legion baseball at Salem Municipal Field. Jason Anderson had a home run among his three hits and drove in five runs for Post 3 West (11-7).
\ Cave Spring American split its two games Sunday in the Little League Junior Division state playoffs at Woodbridge. After losing its opener 11-4 to Louisa, Cave Spring American rebounded to down Fairfax 11-4. Pitcher Greg Wells starred in the win, yielding only two runs in six innings. Tommy Bayrer and Jeremy Hedrick each went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the win. Cave Spring American will play Bridgewater today in the double-elimination tournament.
