Strike vote fails to disrupt air service

Flagship Airlines and its pilots have reached a tentative agreement on pay and benefits, averting a threatened strike. Flagship, operating as the American Eagle commuter for American Airlines, said its service at Roanoke Regional Airport was uninterrupted, despite a vote by pilots to strike after midnight Saturday.

Flagship offers three American Eagle flights a day between Roanoke and Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Neither American Eagle nor the pilots would give details of the agreement. - Staff report

\ Pittston stockholders approve stock split

Shareholders of Pittston Co., Stamford, Conn., parent of Pittston Coal Co. and operator of Southwest Virginia coal mines, on Monday approved dividing the common stock into two classes, representing the service and mining businesses.

The minerals stock will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PZM and the services stock will trade under PZS.

The directors declared a quarterly dividend of 5 cents a share on the services and 16.25 cents on the minerals stock. - Staff report
