AND NO RELIEF IN SIGHT

Will the Roanoke Times & World News please print for all the world to see the financial contributions the flood-ravaged midwesterners have received from Japan (which has about an annual surplus of $38 billion dollars), from West Germany, from Saudi-Arabia, from Kuwait, or from Brunei?

Uncle Sugar with the deep pockets has supported the free world and also sent mountains of relief goods and money every time some far-off country is hit by an earthquake, typhoon, volcanic eruption, and on and on, and I never seem to read that those super rich nations ever send us a dime! Did any of those countries send help after Hurricane Andrew hit Florida? I think it is high time the Congress of the United States cuts foreign aid to zero and begins spending those billions to rebuild our own devastated farms, cities, and support systems. SAMUEL C. PALMER, JR. ROANOKE
