OBIT DEEDS, MARY I.
DEEDS, Mary I., 93, of the Roanoke United Methodist Home, died Tuesday,
July 27, 1993. She retired in June of 1965 after teaching 4 years in Botetourt
County, and 42 years in Roanoke City. She taught at Belmont, Wasena, and
Grandin Court Elementary Schools. Miss Deeds was a member of the Belmont
United Methodist Church, past superintendent of Sunday schools, and
superintendent of the Junior Dept., and former Sunday school teacher. She was
a member of the American Assoc. of University Women, Sequoia Club, and a
member of the League of Roanoke Artist. Surviving are a niece, Kathryn Deeds
Young, Bristol, Tenn.; a great-niece, Piper Lynn Young; a great-nephew, Kent
Wesley Young, all of Bristol, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Deeds, Pulaski.
Graveside services will be at Sherwood Memorial Park, 11 a.m. Thursday, with
Rev. Sam E. McPhail officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9
p.m. Wednesday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
