The Dixie Girls Softball District Tournament, involving 19 teams and sponsored by the North Roanoke Recreation Club, was held recently at Walrond Park.
The Angels Division (ages 7 to 9) was won by North Roanoke, with Vinton finishing second.
The Ponytail Division (ages 10 to 12) was won by North Roanoke American, with Vinton finishing second.
In the Belles Division (ages 13 to 15), Vinton captured the championship. North Roanoke placed second.
Cave Spring won the Debs Division (ages 16 to 19), and Vinton took second.
Sportsmanship awards were won by the Williamson Road Angels, North Roanoke National Ponytails, North Roanoke Belles and Williamson Road Debs.
North Roanoke American, Vinton and Cave Spring will advance to the state tournament.
Roanoke Stars teams play in U.S. contest
Several Roanoke Stars girls basketball teams played in the AAU national championships. Six Stars teams, the 11-, 12-, 13-, 15-, 16- and 18-year-old teams qualified for the national tournament after the Virginia state championships. The 11-, 12-, 15- and 18-year-old teams all won their age group in the state championships, while the 13- and 16-year-old teams finished second.
