SPECIAL EVENTS LAUNCH FAIR SATURDAY

"It grows a little bit every year," says New River Valley Fair manager T.C. "Bud" Walsh.

This year's fair starts with two special events Saturday and continues Monday through Aug. 7 at the New River Valley Fairgrounds. The gate opens at 9 a.m. Saturday to prepare for the antique tractor pull, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. At 7 p.m., the Nationwide Demolition Derby roars into the fairgrounds.

The fair officially opens Monday. Amusements, rides, concerts, agricultural and horticultural displays, livestock contests, exhibits and shows top the list of must-see attractions this year.

Two daily features have been added. The Royal Palace Circus will have several shows each day and a family animal farm exhibit will run throughout the week. It is being built by Pulaski County High FFA students.

Headlining celebrities is country star Tracy Lawrence, who performs Monday. The Six Shooters, Music City's hot teen band, perform Tuesday, and country rockers The Pirates of the Mississippi take the stage Wednesday.

Alison Krauss will bring her band, Union Station, on Aug. 6. Krauss won a Grammy for her second solo album, "I've Got That Old Feeling," released on Rounder Records in June 1990.

The big draw Aug. 7 is John Conlee, who has been entertaining country fans for nearly 30 years. His signature song, "Rose Colored Glasses," is one of eight that have topped the country charts.

Gate admission includes all grandstand shows and exhibit admission. Tickets for All-America Shows midway rides and amusements are extra. There's also an additional fee for chair seating in front of the grandstand at some concerts.
