ENGINEERING STUDENTS PLACE 9TH IN CONTEST

A team of 11 civil engineering students from Virginia Tech placed ninth in the sixth annual American Society of Civil Engineers National Concrete Canoe Competition held in Sacramento, Calif.

Judging is based on written papers, oral presentations, finished canoes and performance in the water.

According to Kathy Chatterton, one of the participants, "concrete canoes float because of a unique combination of materials in the concrete and the design of the canoe."
