NRVS DRIVER OUT OF HOSPITAL TODAY

Malcolm Fink, the Roanoke driver who suffered a heart attack two weeks ago while racing at the New River Valley Speedway in Radford, was expected to be released from Roanoke Memorial Hospital this morning.

Fink, who competes in the Late Model Stock division at the speedway, came home from the hospital July 23 but suffered a stoke the next day and was readmitted.

"He's very fortunate," said his wife, Beverly. "It hasn't done any damage to his brain. He's been in pretty good spirits. He just wants to get back on the road to recovery."

Beverly Fink said that while Fink will not return to the speedway this year, there's a good chance he will race again next year.

"The doctor said he could get back to all of his normal things by next year. He has to build his strength back up, but if he's well enough and the doctors say it's okay, that'll be all right with me. That's what he wants to do."
