OBIT WALKER, SAMUEL LEE
WALKER, Samuel Lee, ("Sam"), 91, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, July 30,
1993. He started his life's journey December 2, 1902, and went to be with his
Lord Friday. He was a faithful member of Waverly Place Baptist Church since
1927, where he served as usher for many years and was a member of the Glad
Hand Sunday School Class. Mr. Walker was involved with the installation of the
first voting machine in the Roanoke Valley. During World War I, he served in
the United States Army and was owner of the S. L. Walker Floor Covering for a
number of years. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Blanche E.
Walker; one niece, Iree Dunfee, Columbus, Ohio; and several nephews. In accord
with his wishes, Mr. Walkers body has been donated to medical science. A
memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 2, 1993, at Waverly
Place Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Hoffler officiating. In lieu of
flowers, his wife Blanche requests memorial gifts be made to the Music
Ministry of Waverly Place Baptist Church. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton
Chapel.
