Norfolk Southern Corp. has promoted DONALD W. SEALE to vice president-Merchandise Marketing, and THOMAS L. FINKBINER to vice president-Intermodal, both effective today. Both will be headquartered in Norfolk.
Also, J.W. "BILL" FOX, JR. will succeed Seale as assistant vice president-Sales and Service in Norfolk Southern's Coal Marketing department in Roanoke.
Seale joined Norfolk Southern in 1976 as a sales management trainee, and worked in a number of sales and marketing positions, becoming director-Market Development in 1987; director-Metals, Waste and Construction in 1990; and assuming his most recent post in the coal department in 1992.
Finkbiner joined Norfolk Southern as assistant vice president-International and Intermodal in 1988, after 12 years in the trucking industry. He was promoted earlier this year to senior assistant vice president-International and Intermodal.
Fox joined the company in 1969 as a junior engineer after graduating from Virginia Tech. He served in a number of operating positions, becoming Shenandoah Division superintendent in 1983, Pocahontas Division superintendent in 1984, Northern Region general manager in 1989 and Eastern Region general manager in 1990.
BANKING
Salem Bank & Trust has named CHARLES W. MANESS vice president of loan administration and TERRANCE E. O'SHAUGHNESSY vice president of commercial loans. Additionally, the bank has appointed TERRI S. DELBRIDGE credit analyst, PAULETTE R. ISHERWOOD collection manager and RODNEY L. RATLIFF bank auditor.
Prior to joining the bank, Maness was employed by the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, Peat Marwick and Dominion Bankshares. O'Shaughnessy was formerly with Crestar Bank and Life of Georgia. Delbridge was with the Comptroller of the Currency, Isherwood was with General Electric Credit Corp., and Ratliff was with Dominion Bankshares and Kennett & Kennett CPA in Roanoke.
COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES
JEFFREY A. WEBB has been named director of alumni and parent relations at Roanoke College. Webb has served as a campus safety officer and an intelligence specialist in the U.S. Navy.
\ MICHAEL D. BYRD has been appointed director of business and industrial training at Virginia Western Community College. His duties include working with area businesses and industries to develop training programs for their employees. He also will conduct seminars on introduction to quality management systems, quality system documentation and internal auditing.
COMPUTER SERVICES
\ TIM W. LAWSON has been named purchasing and quality manager at CCS Data Station in Christiansburg. He has worked at the Virginia Housing and Development Authority for the past five years.
INSURANCE
\ JAMES A. FORD has retired as Northwestern Mutual Life district agent in Roanoke. Ford, who started the agency in 1970, will continue to work with his clients. Former Saginaw, Mich., district agent DALE E. FORBES of Vinton will succeed Ford. Forbes has worked for Northwestern for 13 years.
\ DEANNA D. KIRK has been promoted to branch manager of the new Southwestern Virginia branch office of CorVel Corp. in Wytheville. She previously worked as a supervisor with CorVel, which works with insurance companies, self-insured employers and third party administrators to provide cost containment and managed care.
INVESTMENT
RICHARD K. FISCHER has joined the Roanoke office of A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. as an investment broker. He formerly worked as a portfolio manager with Dominion Bankshares.
\ F. ANDERSON STONE has been appointed senior portfolio manager of fixed income securities at Aon Advisors. He also was named assistant vice president with The Life Insurance Co. of Virginia, an affiliate of Aon Advisors. He previously worked in institutional sales, investment banking and portfolio management at Ferguson, Andrews & Associates.
