MICH. CONGRESSMAN DIES FROM CANCER

U.S. Rep. Paul Henry, a rising Republican star who was elected to a fifth term weeks after doctors removed a malignant tumor from his brain, died Saturday. He was 51.

Henry was diagnosed with brain cancer in October after complaining of headaches.

Doctors initially were optimistic about his chances for recovery, but by midsummer, his staff said he couldn't communicate, and they weren't sure if he recognized friends.

Henry first was elected to Congress in 1984, winning the seat once held by President Ford. In 1990, he was named one of 11 "rising stars" by the National Journal.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, and three children.
