BLUE ROCKS BLANK BUCS

Brian Harrison and Chris Eddy combined on a two-hitter as the Wilmington Blue Rocks blanked the Salem Buccaneers 7-0 in a Carolina League baseball game Saturday night at Legends Stadium.

Jeff Conger and Chance Sanford singled for the Bucs (16-21), but Conger was erased on a double-play grounder and Sanford was thrown out trying to steal.

Harrison (12-4) went seven innings for Wilmington. The right-hander gave up both hits, walked one and struck out five. Eddy finished, walking two and striking out three.

The Blue Rocks (17-20) took the lead in the fourth inning, when Steve Hinton singled off Salem starter Eric Parkinson (1-3) and scored on a double by Francisco Mendoza.

Wilmington made it 3-0 in the sixth on a two-run homer by Hinton.

Parkinson hit Mike Guerrero with the bases loaded in the seventh to force in the fourth run for the Blue Rocks.

Chad Strickland's three-run triple in the eighth off reliever Sean Evans closed the scoring. An error by Sanford set the stage for the three-run inning.

The teams complete their three-game series today with a 6:05 p.m. matchup. Dan Jones will start for the Bucs, and Melvin Bunch is the scheduled pitcher for Wilmington. \
