OBIT WAGGONER, MURIEL CARTER
WAGGONER, Muriel Carter, 72, of 1971 Ashley Lane, SW Roanoke, died
Saturday, July 31, 1993. Mrs. Waggoner was graduated from James Madison
University in 1942 where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority, the
Cotillion Club and the Lanier Literary Society. She was a past member of
Roanoke Junior Women's Club and a former member of Rokeva Women's Club and
Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. In 1982, she was awarded a life honorary
membership to Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers. She taught 32 years
in the Roanoke City Public Schools System and two years in Norfolk County. She
was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Waggoner was preceded in
death by her husband, Harry G. Waggoner and a daughter, Sue Waggoner
Henderson. She is survived by two aunts, Mrs. Judson Cooke of Staunton and
Mrs. Wade Powell of Charlottesville; a nephew, H. D. (Danny) O'Donnell of
Harrisonburg; two nieces and several cousins. The family suggests that in lieu
of flowers, memorials may be made to Virginia Heights Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, at Evergreen Burial Park. Dr.
Daniel E. Scott and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble will officiate. Friends may call at
Oakey's Roanoke from 2 p.m. Sunday where the family will receive friends from
2 to 5 p.m.
