CITY SHOULD MIND ITS OWN BUSINESS

HOW MANY TIMES does it take? The people of Roanoke County and the city of Salem are perfectly happy to have things the way they are in this valley. Mr. Mayor and City Counsel, if they wanted to live in Roanoke City, don't you think they would either move to Roanoke City or have voted for consolidation?

Look at past history of annexation: you pick up prime land and residences and think you're going to raise your tax base and what happens? The ghettoes expand and the people that don't want to live in the city move out.

What is next? Are you going to start picking on surrounding counties--Botetourt, Bedford, Montgomery, Floyd, Craig? I bet those people would have something to say about that.

So why don't you leave well enough alone and take care of the business of Roanoke City. In other words, mind your own business. JOE JACOBS ROANOKE
