OBIT BARKER, ROBERT D.

BARKER, Robert D., 76, of Sugar Grove, died Saturday, July 31, 1993, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mr. Barker was a member of the Marion Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. and A.M., Royal Oak Chapter #54 and Lynn Commandery. He also was a member of the American Legion Post #346 of Sugar Grove and Marion V.F.W. Post #4667 of Marion. While in the military, Mr. Barker received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star Medal. He is survived by his wife, Nina Currin Barker, Sugar Grove; one son and daughter-in-law, R. Dwight and Mary Etta Barker, Chilhowie; his mother, Ella Cox Barker, Sugar Grove; one sister, Pauline Hash, Jarrettsville, Md.; two brothers, Keith G. Barker and Earnest R. (Bill) Barker, both of Sugar Grove; two grandchildren, Christopher B. Barker, Shreveport, La., and Scott A. Barker, Chilhowie. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 3, 1993, 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Sugar Grove, where military rites will be conducted by Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Sugar Grove Fire Department, C/O Mr. Holiday Stanley, P. O. Box 185, Sugar Grove, Va. 24375. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
