Wichita, 2-2 in pool play, was eliminated. Roanoke, 3-1 in pool play, plays the Connecticut Starters today at 1:45 p.m.
Lisa Bryan, a 6-foot-4 center who will be a freshman this fall at Cave Spring High School, led Roanoke with 22 points, going 8-for-15 on field-goal attempts and 6-for-8 on free throws. Sara Moore, who will be a freshman at Lord Botetourt, scored 11 points after sitting out most of the first half with two fouls.
After Roanoke trailed 11-2 and 15-6, Bryan and Cave Spring-bound Stacie Morioka, a reserve who finished with eight points, led Roanoke back to trail 25-23 at halftime. Roanoke scored the first eight points of second half, then Wichita used a 14-3 run to lead 39-34. Roanoke tied the score with five minutes left and took the lead for good at 44-42 with three minutes left. Clutch free throws by Moore in the closing seconds sealed the victory.

Gary Wiggins doubled home two runs in the fifth inning to give Roanoke Post 3 North a 3-1 victory over Danville Post 325 in the Blue Ridge District American Legion baseball tournament at Salem Municipal Field.
The teams meet again tonight at 8 to determine who advances to the state tournament.
Brian Hawkins pitched a complete game for Post 3 North. Wiggins went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and Chuck Spraker had two hits and an RBI.
Danville pitcher Andy Cook also went the distance. Brian Adams had two hits for Danville, and Rashad Waller drove in the only run.
Lee Shirley of Salem shot an 80 and is tied for ninth place after the first round of the U.S. Junior Girls' golf championship at Costa Mesa, Calif. Cristie Kerr of Miami and Skyli Yamada of Sandy, Utah, share the lead after shooting 72s on the 5,934-yard, par-72 Mesa Verde Country Club course.
Charlie Davies, Tommy Rappold, Steve Cromer and Lana Thompson of the Carter Center Aquatics Marlins swim team qualified for the U.S. Swimming Eastern Zones Championships later this month in Fairfax. They recorded their individual qualifying times at the Virginia Long Course Junior Olympics in Midlothian over the weekend.
At Charleston, W.Va., Mike Weilmeunster of Blacksburg won the men's Sport division of the Black Bear 40-kilometer mountain bike race Sunday. Charles Stanley of Roanoke was second and Ron Glowzinski of Roanoke was seventh. Roanoke resident John Corliss was eighth in the Expert race. All four ride for the East Coasters cycling team.
