More than half of the estimated 1 million Virginians who lack medical coverage hold full-time jobs, says the survey compiled by Virginia Commonwealth University's Survey Research Laboratory.
Nevertheless, cost is the principal reason that people go without insurance, said Judy B. Bradford, a professor of social policy at VCU and executive director of the Center for Public Service, which runs the research laboratory.
According to the survey, 18 percent of Virginia's uninsured people earn $50,000 or more a year, and about 22 percent of them earn between $35,000 and $49,999. Almost a third - 32 percent - fall in the $20,000-34,999 range. - Associated Press
