POLICE ARREST YOUTH IN TOMATO PATCH

A 13-year-old Roanoke boy carrying crack cocaine and $430 in cash led police on a chase that ended in a tomato patch.

The youth was being held Monday in the Coyner Springs Juvenile Detention Center on drug charges, Roanoke police said.

The chase started early Saturday when a car carrying the youth sped away from police on Melrose Avenue, running several stop signs before slowing down long enough for the 13-year-old to jump out and flee.

Police caught him hiding in a tomato patch. The driver of the car is being sought on several charges - including driving on a suspended license.
