OBIT RIGGS, REV. EMERY
RIGGS, Rev. Emery, 97, of Hardy, died Monday, August 2, 1993. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Crabtree Riggs. He was co-founder of
Riggs Veneer Corporation in Pulaski. He was also a lay minister at Snowville
Baptist Church, Draper Valley Baptist Church, Max Creek Baptist Church, and
Liberty Baptist Church from 1946 to 1968. He is survived by his two daughters,
Velva R. Palmer, Cora Mabel Riggs, both of Roanoke; four sons, Austin L.
Riggs, Roanoke, Raymond H. Riggs, Pulaski, Emery Garrett Riggs, Fort Gay,
W.Va., John D. Riggs, Hardy; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estel Pack, Norwalk, Calif., Louisa
Harmon, Pine Bluff, Ark. Funeral services will be held at Greenbrier Baptist
Church at 11 a.m. Friday, August 6, 1993, with Rev. John D. Riggs officiating,
pastor of Franklin Memorial Baptist Church, Hardy, where Emery Riggs had been
a member for the past six years. Interment will follow in Cyurs Cemetery in
Fort Gay, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's
Vinton Chapel on Tuesday, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle &
Son Funeral Home, Pulaski, and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Rollins
Funeral Home in Kenova, W.Va.
