OBIT DAVIS, GLADYS HINKLE
DAVIS, Gladys Hinkle, 84, of 1409 O'Dell Street, Pulaski, died early Sunday
morning August 1, 1993 in the C.R. Sands Nursing Home, Wytheville. She was
born July 9, 1909 and was the daughter of the late Robert Allen Hinkle and
Mallie Burke Hinkle. She was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church,
Pulaski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Davis, Sr., one
daughter, Shirley D. Vickers, and a son, Samuel Douglas Davis. Surviving are
daughter and son-in-law, Doris D. and Blake Carter, Pulaski; sons and
daughters-in-law, Charles R. Davis Jr. and Jeane Davis, Pulaski, Buford F.
Davis and Burton Davis, Pulaski, Cecil Larry Davis and Karen Davis, Roanoke;
one sister, Hattie Hampton, Baptist Valley; 12 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be
held Tuesday, 3 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rufus Brock
and Rev. Herman Sarver officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Open Door
Baptist Church, Miller Lane, Pulaski, Va. 24301. The family will be meeting at
the residence of the son, Charles R. Davis Jr., 1116 O'Dell Street, Pulaski.
