OBIT BROOKS, POLLY TERRETTA
BROOKS, Polly Terretta, 80, of Richmond, formerly of Roanoke, died Monday,
August 2, 1993 of cancer. An avid gardener and nationally recognized
horticulturist, she was author of "The Garden Notebook" and numerous articles
on horticulture. She was the flower arranger for Virginia's Executive Mansion
during 4 administrations. Polly Brooks was a member of the Council of the
Virginia Museum, Bloemendaal Society, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Virginia
Historical Society, Society Guild of Virginia House, Windsor Farms Garden
Club, Riverside Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include
her husband, A. Gordon Brooks; her daughter, Betsy Gordon Brooks Carr; her
son-in-law, Thomas E. Carr; her grandsons, Tommy, Gordon, and Jimmy Carr; her
sister, Ellie Cox of Detroit, Mich.; and her two brothers, Paul Terretta of
Winchester, and Anthony Terretta of Chesterfield. Memorial contributions may
be made to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, the Virginia House of the
Virginia Historical Society or to a favorite charity. A memorial service will
be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Cary Street Road at 12 noon on
Thursday, August 5, following a private graveside burial in Hollywood
Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Brooks home from 10 to 12
noon and 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Arrangements by Bennett Funeral Home,
Richmond.
