WOMAN CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER

A 25-year-old Max Meadows woman whose boyfriend was killed when her car collided with a pickup truck driven by the victim's mother has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Judy Marie May was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but 30 days suspended. She will be allowed to serve those days on weekends at the Wythe County jail.

Anthony Ray Stilwell, 26, a passenger in May's car, died in the crash. Two of May's children riding in the car were hospitalized, as were all the occupants of the truck: his mother, Vera Stilwell; his sister-in-law, Sherry Stilwell; and four of her children.

The crash happened June 24, 1992, in the Gunton Park area of the county. Authorities said May operated her car in a manner leading to her boyfriend's death. Testimony indicated that she and her boyfriend had been drinking before the accident.
