LEGGETT TO MOVE 35 LYNCHBURG JOBS

Leggett Co. said Wednesday it will move 35 jobs from its Lynchburg credit department to Charlotte, N.C.

Nick Markham, director of human resources, said Leggett's credit functions will be handled by Belk Store Services. Leggett and Belk stores' owners are related, and the chains have several cooperative operations. Leggett operates the Belk-Leggett store in Danville, but does not own the store.

Markham said 60 jobs will remain in Lynchburg, including his office and those of finance and control and accounting.

Markham said he is optimistic that many of the employees affected either can transfer to Charlotte or find work in other Leggett operations. - Staff report
