Two couples were arrested following an investigation by the sheriff's departments in Wythe and Washington counties as well as the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Wythe County Sheriff Wayne Pike said information from the investigation led authorities to a parking lot at a fast-food restaurant in Wytheville, where 10 pounds of marijuana was to be sold.
Tommy Dale Peery, 49, and his wife, Lisa Dawn Peery, 34, both of Cassell Road in Wytheville, drove off in a pickup truck when police closed in.
Pike said marijuana was thrown out of the truck as the pursuit continued.
He said Peery fled on foot after ramming the vehicle through a farm gate north of town and was caught shortly afterward.
Peery is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, conspiracy to buy and sell marijuana, failure to stop for police, reckless driving, destruction of private property and having no driver's license.
Lisa Dawn Peery was arrested near the truck.
She also was charged with possession, intent to distribute and conspiracy to buy and sell.
Billy James Rose, 38, and Candy Sue Rose, both of Holston Road, were charged with conspiracy to sell and buy marijuana.
