80 VALLEY SCOUTS ARE ATTENDING JAMBOREE

Eighty boys from the Roanoke Valley and their leaders are among the 30,000 participating in the 1993 National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort AP Hill through Tuesday .

The 80 Scouts make up two troops that will represent the Blue Ridge Mountains Council at the jamboree. Darrell Holt, scoutmaster for Troop 1831, will be assisted by Dan Brown, Paul Weary and David Ball. Robbie King is scoutmaster for Troop 1832, with be assisted by Mike Reynolds, Gene Sterne and Lee Formo.

American Legion post installs new officers

American Legion Post 3 of the Roanoke Valley recently installed Dan Karnes as post commander for 1993-94.

Other officers are: Mel Linkous, first vice commander; Posey Oyler, second vice commander; Glenn Thomas, service officer; Sam Black, finance officer; Frank Holdren, judge advocate; Elmo Clemons, chaplain; George Guill, sergeant-at-arms; and Paul Vest, historian.

Roanoke Jaycees install new officers

The Roanoke Jaycees recently installed new officers for the 1993-94 year. They are:

Larry Peterson, president; Teri Peters, management development vice president; Bobbi Gravely, membership development vice president; Eileen Tully, individual development vice president; Debra White, community development vice president; Christy Tucker, financial development vice president; and Kimberly Strickland, state director.

Resettlement office seeks cars for refugees

The Roanoke office of the Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services, a division of the the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, is looking for reliable used cars to give to newly arrived refugee families.

The resettlement agency will help those donating cars with the paperwork for tax purposes.
