RECYCLING MORE THAN SEPARATING TRASH

If you aren't buying recycled products, you aren't recycling, says Dawn French of the Montgomery County Ofice of Environmental Conservation.

True recycling includes collecting recyclables, processing them into new products, then purchasing and using the recycled products.

French says that the key step in recycling is buying recycled products and goods packaged in recycled materials.

To reduce the amount of waste entering landfills, environmentally conscious consumers should increase their use of recycled products with a high post-consumer content.

Post-consumer material has been diverted from the solid waste stream specifically for recycling and re-use.

French advises consumers to seek out and buy products with a high recycled-materials content over those made only of virgin materials.
